Fostering

Fostering

Many of our dogs come over to the UK from Ireland and they are all assessed before they come by very experienced rescue people. We only work with Irish rescues that we know well and trust and we only take fundamentally nice dogs. But of course we need to know as much as possible about them in order to find the right home.
•Are they housetrained?
•Do they chew?
•Can they be left?
•Are they good with children?
•Are they OK with cats/livestock?
•What are they like on and off-lead?
•How active are they?
•Would they prefer to be an only dog or
really love the company of others?
This is where our foster homes come in and we are always desperate for more (not least because are dogs are so nice that over 75 per cent of our foster homes end up keeping the dogs!).
We would love to hear from you if you are an experienced dog owner, have a secure garden and are around for most of the day. Foster placements can be for anything between a couple of days to 2/3 months but, typically, are 2-4 weeks. Some of our foster mums and dads find fostering a great way to dip a toe in to rescue dogs without feeling they have to fully commit up-front.
We can supply all equipment, food and as much support as you need.
If you would like to help, please email info@blackretrieverx.co.uk, telling us a bit about yourself and what you feel you could offer as a fosterer.
Other ways to help us...
HOMECHECKERS
We rehome all over the UK and are always in need of people willing to do homechecks for us. If you could represent us in a particular area of the country, we would love to hear from you.
TRANSPORT
Our dogs often arrive from Ireland in the small hours of the morning, and we are always on the lookout for people who might be willing to give up their sleep to collect the dogs and transport safely to a foster home nearby (usually 20-50 miles). We can cover fuel costs. Particularly useful for us are people who are close to the two main transport routes:
• Holyhead to London (M56/M6/M1)
• Pembroke to London (M4 corridor)
